To give everybody a context of this article, every last Sunday of the month, a donation camp is organized in my neighborhood school for specially abled (blind) , they come from nearest hostels to the far off fringes of Delhi , getting up at 5 AM in the chilly winters of Delhi and taking public transport in the morning so that they can attend the donation camp which starts 7 AM.

I was aware of this camp for the longest time, and once also volunteered to help but on most instances unfortunately was unable to attend due to either super sunday sleep or procrastination :( , on 29th Dec., the last Sunday of the year this time I was determined, maybe it was my selfish interest to bid adieu the year with something I could be proud of or that rare happiness that comes with doing something for someone without anything in return.

So, my mother and I reached around 8, there was a really long line this time, many people came, both to give & take , and I felt I was not the only one who have this emotion, we gave what we got to the volunteers so that they can add it among packets that will be given to them.

The camp was almost over, and the main challenge for them was to return back to home, that meant taking those dangerously curvy roads to the nearest bus stop, I was still there, so I helped few to reach the bus stop.

When I was just about to head home, i met another group who was asking about bus stop, unlike others they were not carrying bags given at donation camp, they were empty handed.

I said I will take you to the bus stop and after a while got curious and asked them what happened, where are your packets?

One person answered, we were late, and the donation camp got over.

I was astonished, with what ease the person communicated me this information was surprising, he had travelled 2 hours to reach this spot in this ruthless chilly morning and now going empty handed.

I curiously asked him, are you not feeling bad, that you got late??

His answer is something I will never forget …

(Bhaisaab , kabhi kabhi humein late bhi hona chahiye , agar aaj mein jaldi aa jaata to shaayad kise aur ko who saaman naa mil paata , shaayad usko uski zyaada zaroorat hogi.)

He answered, “sometimes we should get late in life sometime, if I would have been early somebody else would not have got those donations, maybe he required them more than me

This answer left me speechless as I boarded them to the bus, my vision starts to become clear.
